WANTAM — But Who Will Lead the Change?

It’s been a while. A moment of silence, reflection, and resilience.

Lets start by wishing our readers HAPPY MADARAKA DAY!!!

Sometimes, just being present—juggling life, parenting, work, and the chaos of social media—is a full-time job. Connecting with some of you over the past months has been one of the highlights of this journey. But let’s be candid—it hasn’t been easy. Learning to accept ourselves, and allowing others to do the same, especially in public spaces like this one, takes courage.

And as we try to live, laugh, and love…people are dying.

Yes—dying in our hospitals, more than is expected, more than is acceptable.

We keep asking the same questions, raising the same issues. But it seems our leaders have grown immune to the cries of their people.

Let’s talk about the audacity of it all—County Cabinet Secretaries willing to hand over county payrolls to the National Government. Is this not the same Constitution that gave power to the people through devolution? Now they want to centralize it again? Aaah!

Do we blame the medics? Or the ministry?

Or are we still waiting for "mgao wa Serikali Kuu" to fix the mess in our wards and dispensaries?

Where are our MCAs?

Where are our MPs?

Or people are focused on the next general elections that they have forgotten the here and now!

As we look for answers, a few names linger in the minds of many.

Chris—you’ve done well, made impact, stood out. But this moment needs strategy. Reconfigure. Reset. Keep the momentum but evolve with the needs of the people. You’re on the radar now, so stay focused.

Tairo—you’ve shown optimism, and we see your quiet grit. Are you ready to lead us into the next phase? The truth is, what we have isn’t sustainable. The budget allocations, the endless contractor drama, the stalled projects. What if, just what if—we used the labor and machinery already at our disposal? Think local, act now.

Taita is who we are. It’s in our roots not to accept things as they are.

WANTAM is not just a slogan—it’s our identity.

But who among us is truly ready to make the difference?

Is it Mtaalaki?

Or is it time we recalibrate completely and consider leaders like Bwana Martin Tairo, who may just have the right mix of caution and courage? my thoughts!!! lets look beyond what we call normal, our county has stagnated, no change since the start of devolution.  What we need is someone who is ready to take risks and make the needed change!!

Change must happen.

In whatever form it comes—political, cultural, developmental—as long as the people at the grassroots, watu wa mashinani, can feel it, live it, and own it.

We are tired of talking. We are ready for building.

Because this time, we don’t just want a revolution. We want results.

Back Home – Who is Ready for Change?

Back home, in Taita Taveta, how many are truly ready to make change? How many are willing to stop complaining and start acting? How many are ready to rebuild, to restructure, to rewrite the future of our people?
