Weka Mawe!! Tutam Imekwama

As I sit in my old rocky chair…
a glass of Johny Walker in hand… I wonder.
Who might we become?

I keep reminding this new generation something simple:

Trying matters. It Does really.

Fear destroys more dreams than failure ever will.

And now in my old age…
when I look back at my scars…

I smile.

Because it is in those scars that we win.

But wueh…

these are hard times.

Economic turmoil has hit everyone.

Even the famous “Tutam!” slogan has suddenly taken a tea break.

You cannot keep singing harmoniously when unga prices are rising like unmanned drones.

As a parent…

the pain is real.

Fuel hikes today mean hunger tomorrow.

And the coming rise in basic commodities is something we cannot ignore anymore.

Where is the relief we were promised?

This pain…

Back in 2020.

'Huyu Jamaa amewacha mafuta imepanda, wanainchi wanumia' Ruto back then to Uhuru.

How the table have turned.

But for me it feels like what Lazarus must have felt after being raised from the dead.

And yes… I copied that line.

But think about it.

We always view that story from the Messiah’s perspective.

The miracle.

The glory.

The power.

But imagine Lazarus himself.

The man had finally reached milk and honey…

then boom!!

Unarudishwa duniani tena.

My God…

that must have hurt.

Because sometimes the realities of this world are so painful…

people start romanticizing the next one.

Me?

I’m not going yet.

Will keep running from the light my guy.

Sema Tutam!!
Naweka mawe!!

This now feels like a father willing to let the children sleep hungry…

just to prove a point.

Zakayo promised roads.

He promised affordable houses.

Now I hear even the levy money deducted to cushion wananchi during moments like these…

is allegedly finding its way into roads and houses nobody can afford.

In our backyard

Wakufull ameruka mkojo akakanyaga kinyesi.

And let me say this clearly.

UDA was supposed to be Wakujaa’s lifeline.

But I fear…

that is exactly where his political career will die.

Nani amesema “Tutam” hapo nyuma wangwana??

Weka mawe!!

Ni mbaya!!

A Gen Z showed me something today.

Ati reducing words while typing.

Tomorrow is now “Mrw.”

Ha ha!!

I read it twice thinking WTH!!.

Then the explanation came…and i was OMG!!

and I realized something painful.....AGO!!

Yani Am Getting Old!!

I am old.

Very old.

Maybe it is now time for me to start expelling wisdom to this young bunch like nonsense.

Because these kids…

they are dangerously fast.

But even with all this humor…

the truth remains.

Things are tough.

Very tough.

And difficult times demand sober thinking.

Let us make informed choices.

Please.

And for the love of all things holy…

wachana mambo ya Samboja kabisa.

We cannot be that naive again.

Not at a time like this.

Not with this economy.

Not with this pain.

And whether people like hearing it or not…

the future belongs to those prepared to face reality.

Not slogans.

Not emotions.

Reality.

“A hungry man can survive hardship… but a lied-to man eventually becomes dangerous.”

As Chávez once said, “Once you educate the people, you cannot make them unlearn.” We have seen the future, and the future is ours. They think we don’t see. But we are faceless, and yet, we see.

Gods of Taita Taveta, let’s make it in our own image. Next Saturday, stay tuned for our next episode. We are now on Facebook @Alve Mwaregha.
